Job Description:

Member of the Know Your Neighbor Refugee Volunteer Program (KYN) team, working in coordination with the community team at the Utah Department of Workforce Services and Utah Refugee Services Office, to support local resettlement efforts for refugees. The incumbent will create and maintain relationships with refugees and local volunteers to enhance outreach for the KYN Program. The primary focus is given to exceptionally vulnerable populations within the refugee community the KYN program serves. The volunteer coordinator will focus on matching volunteers with refugees in Utah. The work involves the recruitment of additional volunteers, especially to fill opportunities with specific skill set needs.

Pay for this position is approximately $68,000 annually depending on qualifications and experience.

About the Know Your Neighbor Refugee Volunteer Program:

The Know Your Neighbor Refugee Volunteer Program is a partnership between the Utah Refugee Services Office and the Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office. The program pairs volunteers with refugees to address service gaps and provide customized community integration support through matches with skilled volunteers. The program serves to advance the integration process between refugees and the communities where they reside by providing an avenue to develop friendships, share cultural values, and promote integration, collaboration, and trust.

This is a grant-funded position. This position is open until filled and may close without notice.

TYPICAL DUTIES:• Onboarding volunteers to the program, which includes conducting volunteer and staff background checks and orientation.• Processing volunteer requests from the community team, partnering agencies, and community members.• Maintain and update the Know Your Neighbor volunteer management software system and user accounts.• Updating and keeping the program tracking system.• Send out recruitment emails and respond to those received.• Perform volunteer and refugee matches.• Provide volunteer support and guidance with the support of the Know Your Neighbor team. • Create and organize volunteer engagement opportunities.• Creates sustainable relationships between community leaders and partners to build trust and encourage participation from their community members in the Know Your Neighbor Program. • Maintain existing relationships with community leaders and partners. • Creates a system to facilitate the future maintenance of all relationships. Including, but not limited to a method of record keeping of community groups, primary contacts, and active efforts within the communities and our partnership with the communities. • Attend meetings with the Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office and Refugee Services Office. • Work with team members from the Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office and the Utah Refugee Services Office. • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Management, Sociology or related subject, and two years related experience. Education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

  • Strong written, oral, and public presentation skills. Proven track record in the establishment and maintenance of strong relationships with all levels of staff and management in the public and private sectors.

  • Ability to communicate with ease in English both orally and in writing.

  • Experience being responsible for projects and working with a deadline.

  • Ability to establish a working timeline for tasks and diligently stick to them.

  • Preferred work experience in a related position.

  • Strong written, oral, and public presentation skills.

  • Proven track record in the establishment and maintenance of strong relationships with all levels of staff and management in the public and private sectors.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license or driving privilege card, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience or education in working with diverse communities.

  • Prior work experience in a municipality, state, or other governmental entity.

  • Experience in developing training manuals, and leading workshops.

  • Bilingual or multilingual skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Light physical activity, generally comfortable working conditions. Some exposure to heat, cold, dust, out of doors, etc. Frequent driving of an automobile.

  • Frequent stress as a result of human behavior. Odd hours of work, including evenings and weekends.
